About the Course

Exams: There will be four mid-term exams and one final exam. All exams are closed book. The mid-term exams take place in class time. The final exam is on Monday, December 13 6pm - 8pm, room TBA.

Quizzes: There will be a short quiz (one or two questions, 10 - 15min) at the start of class each Friday. Each quiz will be worth 10 points. No quiz on weeks we have an exam!

Homework: There are homework questions assigned on the syllabus for each class period. You should work all these questions, and ask me, or visit the Math Resources Center, if you have any questions on them. I will collect homework every class period. You do not need to turn in all the assigned homework - I will announce in class each day what homework I will be collecting the next class period.

Help!

"What can I do if I need more help in calculus?"

Here are the first three things I'd suggest trying (in no particular order):

  1. Visit me in my office. Just drop by during my office hours (see above) or call/email to arrange a different time.
  2. Attend the recitation. This is a study/review session which meets twice a week in Teac 105. The times are 4:00-5:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday. Attendance is optional, but highly recommended.
  3. Visit the Math Resources Center. It's open 6 days a week and you can drop in any time to talk with a TA. There's a lot of different people working there, so if one person can't answer your question in a way you can understand, you can always go find someone else who can. The Math Resources Center hours are posted here.

Grades

Your final grade will be calculated based on your total points earned in the following categories.

Item Number Points Total
Exams 4 100 400
Quizzes 10 10 100
Homework lots 5 100

Total 800

The grading scale will be no harsher than:

720 or higher A
640 - 719 B
560 - 639 C
480 - 559 D
